Good plugs for 18 ga. wire - Part 1
Initially I hated these CAT6 RJ45 plugs. I made the mistake of practicing on a chopped-up shielded cat6 cable that I bought at Frys. I spent the entire day ruining cable after cable. At the end of the day, and after much frustration, I realized that I was working with much smaller wire than what I would use in the near future (I'm a home owner, not a tech). The small diameter wires, maybe 22 ga, kept jumping track out of the plastic wire guide. I was yelling nasty things at the wires. When I switched over from my "practice" Frys cable to some real U/stp bulk 18 ga cable the difference was night and day. The wires went into the guide and stayed in place. Lining up and cutting the wires to the correct length became very easy with a few practice crimps. What I found out is if you push the little plastic insert/guide as far down the wires as you can, towards the end of the cable shealth that was just stripped, you can wiggle and massage the wires with your thumb and forefinger to get the guide really close to the shealth end and beginning of twists. Then you can line up the front of the guide with the back of the pins on the RJ plug side-by-side, looking through the clear plastic. Then if you hold the plug and wires still you can slide the guide forward along the wires until the front of the guide is lined up with the front of the RJ 45 plug. The guide now serves as a perfect straightedge to snip the wires at the perfect length to ensure the tightest twists possible once you insert the guide/wires into the plug for crimping. I ran the guide back and forth a few times before pushing into the plug/crimping to make sure the wires would smoothly enter the back part of the pins on the plug. Small wiggles made the wires enter and fully go to the front of the RJ 45 plug for crimping.

CAT6A STP RJ45 Shielded Modular Plug
Worked perfectly. Had to pay special attention to the correct position of the "wire aligner" otherwise could not get the wires to seat correctly into the plug.

Great connectors
If you have CAT6A don't bother with anything else. The size of the load bars and the size of the connector itself work great and make them a breeze to use.

Best price anywhere on a good quality shielded CAT6 connector. Includes load bar to reduce NEXT, and 360-degree crimped shield hood connection. Don't forget the boots. Works with snagless crimpers. Standard RJ45 crimpers will dent the shield hood, but connectors will still work.
