Category 3 network cables were once a standard for internet connectivity, and still are the standard for many electronic industries. Following the usual TIA/EIA-568 building standards, Cat3 4-pair bulk wire for audio has an unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) design with eight color-striped wires in four couplings. These audio wire pairs make up 24 AWGs each.
Able to produce speeds 10BASE-T Ethernet, the Cat 3 4 pair bulk wire is largely used in telecommunication systems, today. Using all four twisted-pairs of wire can offer internet speeds up to 100 Mbit/s, making this a versatile category 3 audio cable. Two-line telephones and low bandwidth networks will also benefit from using Category 3 4-pair cables.
